Green Emerald Ficus Bonsai Tree-Root over Rock
(ficus microcarpa)

Also known as Green Island Ficus. Has oval to roundish dark green shiny leaves. Easily forms rosetts at the end of its branches if kept trimmed. Branches and fruits well and easily develops aerial roots when kept humid. Different than other Ficus varieties in that the leaves are much thicker. Does well in lower, medium or high lighting conditions. Ours has exposed roots growing over a textured rock and down into the soil. One of our favorites. Very easy indoor maintenance.

The Ficus Bonsai tree is one of the best choices of tree for both experienced and novice bonsai gardening hobbyists. Ficus trees have a strong and durable root system. In natural growth, the ficus roots will twist and turn making it a very decorative tree for any garden. There are many varieties of ficus bonsai such as the ficus benjamina midnight which thrives and is noted for it's ease of care and fantastic basket weaved branches. Some of the botanical names used for the most popular ficus trees are Ficus Macophyllai, Ficus Benjamina, Ficus Barteri and Ficus Rubiginosa, Ficus Microcarpa, Ficus Nerifolia/Salisafolia, Ficus Benjaminia too little,Ficus Retusa,Ficus Compacta, Ficus Orientalis, Ficus Exotica. Some common Ficus Bonsai names include Ginseng Ficus Bonsai, Willow Leaf Ficus Bonsai,Taiwan Ficus Bonsai,Oriental Ficus Bonsai, Mistletoe Fig Bonsai and Green Emerald Ficus Bonsai. The Ficus Bonsai is one of the most Recommended Indoor Bonsai Trees and does extremely well in direct sunlight locations. The Ficus Bonsai only needs to be watered when the soil ,becomes dry. The plant will not do well in moist soil conditions so let the soil dry out between waterings. Once the soil is dry, give the plant a good watering. The Ficus Bonsai will thrive in those conditions. The Ficus Bonsai leaves are oval to elliptical shaped with a leathery feel to the dark green glossy look. The young ficus trees should be repotted every two years in the spring. As the tree matures it only needs to be repotted when the root system fills the container. For further information and a wide selection of Bonsai Soils and Fertilizers Ficus Bonsai trees should be pruned late spring or early summer. Branches should be cut back and trimmed at that time to achieve the size and shape desired. The Ficus Bonsai responds well to all bonsai techniques and your choice of Bonsai Tools & Wire are not limited. Cuttings from softwood can be used to grow new trees in the summer before the wood branches harden. The Ficus Bonsai does not grow as well from seeds. Because of the large number of varieties of Ficus Bonsai, this tree is probably the most popular. Another reason for its popularity is its indoor hardiness. As with all bonsai trees it is wise to always choose a mature tree from a reputable grower who provides a guarantee.
