The Japanese flowering Mock Orange has thick glossy evergreen leaves that are oblong and in whorls and that are creamy white and green in color. Flowers are rather small, creamy white and very fragrant and give off a fragrance similar to that of the Orange Blossom, hence the name Mock-Orange. At maturity they produce a leathery fruit called a capsule. Does very well indoors.

 

If you don't have much experience with bonsai's, you will probably not know that there are some varieties of bonsai tree which grow fruit. Indeed, just as we have traditional fruit trees that grow in the backyard, there is absolutely nothing holding you back from growing one inside. In this article, we will talk about the Orange Bonsai - a tree which yields fruit year after year, and one which is easily overlooked by bonsai enthusiasts. Growing to about 19 inches tall, and available in a number of different varieties - the Orange Bonsai it is certainly not a delicate little plant. In fact, the reason that most people choose not to go with an orange bonsai in their bonsai garden - is that they are actually not that pretty. To support the fruit, their branches are thick, and the leaves are sparse. Orange Bonsai Care. The Calamondin is by far the most popular variety of Orange Bonsai available on the market. This tree needs to be kept indoors, but in an extremely sunny place. It also needs to have a decent amount of fresh air - in order for the fruit to grow. Try to find an area with a temperature between 53° and 79° (Fahrenheit) - as this will give the Japanese bonsai the best chance of success. Because of the size of the orange bonsai, it would be a good idea to use bonsai fertilizer as a food substitute for the tree. Because this variety yields fruit, it is always best to use an organic fertilizer rather than an inorganic one. Also, ensure that the plant is watered regularly - but not over watered. An approximate rule would be to water the plant every second day in the hot temperatures, and every third day during winter. It is important to get the balance right here, because too little or too much water will affect the roots in a negative way.
