The Pine Bonsai family includes the Scotch Pine and Scots Pine conifers.  The botanical name for the Pine Bonsai is Pinus Sylvestris.  The Pine Bonsai is a very distinctive looking evergreen conifer.  Even young pine trees have a windswept aged look to them.  Young trees will grow in a pronounced conical shape.  However, as the tree ages the branches spread out more into an irregular shape. but the tree remains pointed at the top.  The needle shaped leaves have a frosted gray green color to them.

There also is a species referred to as the Dwarf Scots Pine Bonsai. which is a very slow growing specimen and is used very often in bonsai gardens.

The Pine Bonsai needs to watered every two to three weeks.  Fertilizer should be added to the waterings from mid spring to early fall.  This evergreen usually grows well in most bonsai gardens even those designed by beginners.  It looks well indoors or outdoors and in formal or informal bonsai gardens.
